If you think that transgender dating is the pinnacle of unconventional sexual orientations in modern society, you better think again. In our opinion, the set of various alternative sexual preferences that hide behind the BDSM acronym undoubtedly takes the cake. However extreme, it slowly but surely finds its way to the mainstream world though.
Moreover, we can find the latest proof of its popularity in one of the most prestigious colleges in the US. That’s right ladies and gents, we’re talking about a member of the Ivy League, the one and only Harvard University. Committee on Student Life on Harvard is about to discuss and hopefully approve the first BDSM club in the history of American universities. Without further ado, let’s investigate what all the fuss is about.
Turning a New Page
It doesn’t hurt to mention that these new events are beneficial to the BDSM community, which is already going strong. Apart from the regular festivals that BDSM fans organize across the US, they’ll now be able to partake in the very first official BDSM club at Harvard College Munch.
All that needs to happen now is for the Committee on Student Life to approve this club and we’ll be seeing gatherings on campus by enthusiasts of the whip and rope. Furthermore, this will also mean that students will be able to apply for grants from the Drug and Alcohol Peer Advisors organization via Munch.
Michael, who founded the group, stated that the members of the group will have reassurance by having “institutional support,” which isn’t something too many non-meta student organizations have.
Looking into the Future
This new club is the promise of the more benefits for the BDSM community in general. For one thing, we all know that the best way for an institution as big as a country to show support to a minority is via students and the younger members of society.
Now, what does this mean for the future of BDSM? Well, for starters, acceptance is something sought by all minority communities, and the BDSM lovers are no exception to this rule. Instead of having to wait for a single day a year to celebrate all things BDSM in the streets, this community will now have a stable output for their ideas and initiatives – and what better way to do that than having a club in a university as important as Harvard, right?
BDSM as a phenomenon has been around for quite a while. Everyone always acknowledged its existence, but rarely anyone would partake in activities that it implies. However, with more and more nightclubs, dating websites and student clubs being opened in the name of BDSM, this minority is looking to gain more acceptance than ever before.
It’s always nice to theorize about such things, but it’s even better when there’s an actual step being taken toward making the life of a minority community easier.
